Jonah: What do you do when God calls you to preach repentance to your mortal enemies? Jonah caught the first boat in the opposite direction! Discover how that worked for him and what it means for us. Meets in the Parish Hall during the Bible Study Hour.
Katie’s Class
The ladies are studying the Lesser Festivals and Commemorations of the Church. This class meets in Classroom 8 in the basement during the Bible Study Hour.
Wednesday
Men’s Bible Study
Matthew: How does a former tax-collector and Jew explain the Messiah to others? Why should that matter to us? Find out Wednesday mornings as we read through the Gospel According to Matthew — a gospel in which Matthew is inspired to make clear how rigorous and all inclusive Jesus’ call to repentance is. In Jesus’ teaching, as reported by Matthew, we discover better how we are shaped for discipleship in light of the cross. Meets at 6:30 am at Bob Evans on Big Hollow Road.
Evening Bible Study
Between the Testaments: So just what happened with God’s people between the time of the last Old Testament prophet (Malachi) and Gabriel’s announcement that John the Baptist was to be born to Elizabeth and Zechariah? It turns out, rather a good deal. What does it mean for us? It’s a picture of both how things can go right and go disastrously wrong as the faithful endure unfaithful governments and wait for the fulfillment of God’s promises. Join us as we do a quick overview of the 400 years from Malachi to Christ. Class meets in the Parish Hall at 7:00 pm.
Thursday
Afternoon Bible Study
The Gospel According to St. John: Sometimes simply called the "Fourth Gospel," this account of Christ's work and teaching was given as a supplement to Matthew, Mark, and Luke. John is given to focus on Jesus' divine nature, the power of His word, and that faith in Him is what brings life now and in eternity. Join us as we read through this powerful witness to Jesus. We meet at 1:00 pm in the Parish Hall.
Saturday afternoon
Lutheranism 101: What are the basic teachings of the Christian faith? What gifts are given us by God so that we can live with Him in peace? Why do we worship the way we do? Where do Lutherans come from anyway? These and other questions — including yours — may well be answered as we embark on another Lutheranism 101 class. Class meets Saturday afternoons at 3:00 pm.
