LCMS Disaster Response Please pray for Pastor Ruben Dominguez, he will arrive this morning in Mexico City on behalf of LCMS Disaster Response to work with our LCMS Missionaries to help make an assessment and develop a strategic action plan.Holy Father, as the images of devastation continue to flood in, Your children turn to You in prayer. Remember all whose lives have been shaken, and hold them in Your everlasting arms. Remember all whose property has been lost, and remind them of the unfading inheritance Your Son has prepared for Your children in heaven. Remember all who work to bring rescue and support to those imperiled, and fill them with courage. Remember all who serve in government, and endow them with Your wisdom. Bring an end to the rains in Your kindness. Use all Your people as agents of Your divine love and witnesses to our everlasting hope. We ask it in the name of Jesus, our Lord. Amen.

The appointed Gospel reading for tomorrow is Matthew 18:21-35. Here's the opening of tomorrow's sermon....."So My heavenly Father will do to you if each of you, from his heart, does not forgive his brother his trespass."This conclusion to Jesus teaching is so stunning that it practically drowns out the promise and good news that was lurking in Jesus' answer to Peter's question about forgiveness."So My Father will do to you...." - that is, deliver you to the torturers until all your debt should be paid - "if you do not forgive - from the heart."And just to be clear - forgiving the brother from the heart means reconciling with that person - and living with the affection, trust, and even joy, that was there before whatever offense broke your relationship. That's no small order - for you know what it's like - you do something truly wrong against a friend, a family member, a fellow church member - and, what? Well, there's shock - hurt - hard feelings. But, we're all trained to be nice in church - we know that it is generally frowned upon for us to let folks know what we really think - although there's always that little voice going on about what you'd say if you could.... But, we're trained to be nice in church - so, we smile, shut our mouths - and then "forgive" - or get forgiven - by acting as if no great harm was done. You know, "no big deal," "think nothing of it," "we're good." We act as if everything is just fine. Smiles abound. And it's all fake.Anger. Hurt. The desire for justice. They are all still there - just under the surface. We talk - we act - a good game, but in reality nothing is really forgive - at least not from the heart: affection, trust, joy - they are all gone. And so, by Jesus' word this morning - we find that we are all in a load of trouble.....Find out where this ends up tomorrow at 8:00 or 10:45 in the morning. Or catch it online after Tuesday.....
